The building of the Museum Nacional de Soares dos Reis serves as the headquarters of the Círculo Dr. José de Figueiredo, an incorporated body whose Statutes were approved on 25.08.1940. Its aims and objectives are to advance culture and the arts, to defend the Portuguese cultural heritage, and, especially, to promote the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis. Assuring the Museum Director with the necessary collaboration, the main incidence of the association is on publishing works intended to disseminate the values of both the M.N.S.R. and private collections and, in general terms, everything relating to Portuguese art, museology, museography and the history of the city of Porto.
It regularly publishes an annual magazine «MUSEU» - the only one of its kind in the country - that was started in 1942, at the initiative of Vasco Valente, then Director of the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis. Amongst its objectives is the disclosure of activities promoted and developed by the Círculo Dr. José de Figueiredo.
